LeBron James has said he is ‘super excited’ for his son Bronny to make his college debut, with the teenager close to playing his first game for USC following his cardiac arrest.

Bronny, 19, could make his USC bow against Long Beach State on Sunday – just five months after a shocking collapse plunged his career into doubt.

LeBron said it will mean ‘everything and more’ to see his eldest son on the court. Speaking after the Lakers’ victory over the New Orleans Pelicans in Las Vegas, the 38-year-old said: ‘I’m looking forward to that for sure… I’m super excited for that moment.’

Bronny returned to full-contact practice on Thursday for the first time since suffering the cardiac arrest in July.

‘It’s a big milestone for our family, for sure,’ LeBron continued. ‘It’s another step for him on his journey in his basketball career. I’m looking forward to it.’

James had previously said he was willing to miss a Lakers game in order to watch his son’s debut.

But the Lakers’ win over the Pelicans, which booked their place in the final of the NBA’s In-Season Tournament, ensured their schedules do not clash.

James led the Lakers in scoring as they steamrolled the Pelicans in Thursday’s semifinals, amassing 30 points with five rebounds and eight assists in the 133-89 win.

Los Angeles will now face the Indiana Pacers in Saturday’s inaugural championship game in Las Vegas

Center Anthony Davis supported James with 16 points and five assists. He also led the Lakers with 15 rebounds.

Rui Hachimura, D’Angelo Russell, Taurean Prince and Austin Reaves all contributed double-digit points with 12, 14, 15, and 17 points, respectively.

LeBron James on Bronny’s expected USC debut Sunday:
